Program Summary
As today�s designs demand a variety of communication capabilities, this course will guide architects and interior
designers through the merging of technology with building design. A variety of the most common floor structures
will be discussed along with appropriate floor boxes for the cable management of IT and audiovisual systems.
Different features of the boxes will be discussed as well as UL requirements, electrical issues, the balance of
technology and aesthetics, and emerging developments in connectivity. The same will be done for walls within
the structure.
Furniture also has the same needs for accessing multimedia communication where people work, learn or meet.
Various connectivity and cable management solutions within furniture will be covered, as well as the evolution
of �Smart Furniture.� Different types of infrastructure components will also be discussed.
The program will relate to architectural designs of the interior of educational facilities, hotels, churches, boardrooms,
work spaces and general meeting rooms. Working with an audiovisual consultant to prepare for the media aspects of the
design will be discussed in the final portion of the presentation.
The presentation runs about 60 minutes. It has been approved by AIA towards one AIA/CES Learning Unit. It also has
been approved by the International Interior Design Association.
